Combining a breadth of knowledge Kashmir Powder Tours and Snow Safety Australia have collaborated to offer what is possibly the world’s highest avalanche course!
A special 2 week package designed to tick Gulmarg off your bucket list and give riders a framework with backcountry Education. The training element of this package is an internationally recognised AST1 certification. The classroom syllabus will be delivered in the evenings over two nights, while the field portion of the course will take place on the mountain in a single day.

Women in the Backcountry AST1
Gone are the days when women would defer to their male counterparts for safe travel in the backcountry. The ratio of men to women is shifting into an even split, and no one in avalanche country should rely on friends — male or female — to lead them through the playground in safety. Snow Safety Australia is committed to increasing outdoor skills for women allowing them to gain confidence in decision-making and trusting their intuition while sharpening their knowledge in the backcountry.
Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST1)
What you will learn on level 1 (AST1) training:
- identify avalanche terrain
- the basics of trip planning
- optimal use of tools and resources like the avalanche forecasts to mitigate your avalanche risk
- use appropriate travel techniques in avalanche terrain
- intro to companion rescue avalanche formation and release
Avalanche Awareness Training 2 (AAT2)
Learning outcomes for the ATT 2 course include:
- Advance trip planning and snowpack assessment.
- Applying the regional danger rating to your days touring or coming up with a danger rating if no regional forecast is supplied.
- Advance victim rescue training looking for multiple victims.
- Adding more snow testing techniques to those learnt in ATT1.

Wilderness / Alpine First Aid

What makes this class different? You learn first aid protocols for “remote Alpine conditions” where(medical support is more than 2hrs away). These are the first aid skill you need to handle issues and injuries in remote or wilderness areas. Also, first aid techniques in this class are more advanced than a standard first aid course…with more choices…plus higher performance standards. This first aid works anywhere, as you also learn the traditional “rapid” response protocols for everyday situations.
